“I count the days until the next Monday’s cooking time”

Helen lives in family Home Office accommodation. She was referred by a family social worker and took a big step to come for the first time to Cooking With English. Like many women she had to leave the support of extended family and struggles with isolation. After her first time with us, she said she’d been waiting for a group like it for ages. Read more of Helen’s story.

£50

Provides essential winter clothing for sanctuary seekers.

“Excuse me, can you help me please? I need shoes”

Emergency English classes are designed to help new arrivals communicate for a more receptive response. New arrivals often have nothing but the clothes they stand in, so we do our best to get them footwear and maybe jackets and trousers.

£80

Provides ingredients for four Cooking with English classes.

“I learned many new things and felt a surge of positive energy”

We can never underestimate the value of providing a space for women to cook with peers, build new community, increase their independence and equip them with the language and skills to integrate into their new location more effectively.

Our weekly contact with sanctuary seekers in local hostels means we know who is in need, and can make sure it gets to them.

We also provide them with a SIM and data to get them started.
